Kino no Tabi

10.00 (excellent) A work of art as for the philosophical and poetical point of view. It's quite evident the influence of Zen and Shinto in the way of contemplating the world (which itself is a very important statement: to contemplate is to observe attently, to understand what you are watching). The fact that Kino doesn't get too involve is that she tries no to attach herself to nothing 'cause in the end, everything changes and may well vanish. What I like is how she transform her own reality according to her dreams. She inherits a new name, she learn how to travel, she learns how to fight, she even switch her female register to a male one but she do not deny or hide her woman condition. That's how I feel it.

10.00 (excellent) A fine statement about distopia, memory and postmodernism. (My god!!! Don't make me start on Kanno-sensei's magic *¬*!!!) Although the manga and the anime differ in lots of detail (narrativewise), the final message is powerful in both (In my opinion is better to have seen the anime first and then to read the manga. Otherwise is heart torning...D:) When the time seems at its end, is only natural to return to the beginning, to the roots: in a distant future where existance has no meaning or porpuse but to perpetuating itself, old believes and perspectives come forth. It's not gratuitous that the main characters were wolves; amidst cold technology and humans with no self-consciousness they are the only voilce that make sense, they represent the natural truth of movement and change.

10.00 (excellent) First manga/anime where I do respect female characters. As for the manga, I have read it all so far and I absolutely love it! As for the anime, I was a little dissapointed with the few chapters and the exaggerated pathetic performance of Raki, but since I'm a feminism fan, I do enjoy the complex and dialectical relationships between the warriors: their solidarity, alterity, understanding and best of all, the fact that romantical love is NOT their ultimate goal.

Vagabond

Last Updated: Mar 27, 2013

10.00 (excellent) I used to watch some Slam Dunk episodes when I was a child and I wasn't attracted at all. When I bumped in with Vagabond, I was like: "Fuck sake! Who made this golden marvel?" Of course, I was shocked when I learned that it was the same person. Working on national historical chapters is always difficult, to write a historical novel with the right amount of realitiy and fiction about a certain character is even more difficult, to make a whole manga based on that very novel is quite a challenge and Inoue-sensei accepted it. To even look at every frame is a delight and the graphical descriptions of action and philosophy is truly a religious experience.

Spirited Away

Last Updated: May 11, 2012

10.00 (excellent) Another work of art from Ghibli, but that's just obvious. The story is about Chihiro and her journey, yes, but the other main character is memory; not only hers ('cause if she forgets about her name, everything is lost), but also about everyone else's even Mayazaki-sensei himself and the audience: The train goes through a sea, passes by these particular places, situations, peoples... You can't ride that train along Chihiro and the gand, look out the window and not to remember things from your past... you just can't.

10.00 (excellent) This rating and following opinion are about the movie Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. A magnificent work of art from every angle: the story, the art, the music, the voices, the scenes... You name it and you get it! (And if you're a Bram Stoker's DRACULA fan, you'll have a pleasent surprise when you recognize many of its referents). I used to think about vampires as a very interesting group, but with all the Twilight-Vampire Diaries-Easy-light-Best seller crap I began to dislike them. This is one of the few movies that I really respect.

No. 6

Seen: completely

Last Updated: May 24, 2012

10.00 (excellent) What a jewel! From every angle: story, characters, voices, animation, dynamics... Shion and Nezumi grow together, they complete each other, they love each other, they protect each other (they give it a twist to the classical couple of dominant-submissive characters... they do seem to work on an equality-based relationship). Maybe the reason why it wasn't promoted as shounen-ai (although the love is quite evident) it's because this is not about two men in love, but two human beings, two people who care deeply about each other. As if that wasn't enough, there's a strong social-political and ecological discourse, there's alterity, plenty of books, literary references and art. It's impossible no to drop fulminated by such beauty!

Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki

10.00 (excellent) I first heard of the upcoming movie and I immediately fell in love with the whole concept. Now, I'm reading the manga and it's just adorable and sad. This is not the first manga that weilds the idea of the countryside as far more human (humaine) place to live in, which works perfectly for a wolf family. But it's also very interesting how the human world has this power to snatch the very nature of things... with time, the strong little Yuki wants to be more "feminine" and "ladylike", whereas fragile little Ame slowly becomes more aware of his wolf nature and wants to know more about it... An absolutely catching story, specially for us wolf-lovers ^_^ <3! I wept like a madelaine for several hours after watching the movie TT____TT There's so much love, patienceand faith that I couldn't help it.......

9.75 (excellent) Another anime institution, if you ask me. Escaflowne is one of those series that every otaku or beginner should watch. In my opinion, every scene, every turn of events, every act is well justified, so you don't get the nasty feeling of something missing. I don't give it the 10 because I wanted to see at least one freaking kiss with Van!!!! (I don't think that I'd be wrong if I said that all of us fans melted and screamed with Allen in the bridge... O.O Am I right, am I right?) In the end is a marvellous story. The music? Kanno and Mizoguchi made up a love story of their own!

There's absolutely no spoken line and yet you can understand every situation with no problem just by watching and listening. What a delight! Of course, the tragical element can't miss on Toei's productions TT__TT

9.75 (excellent) OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3<3<3<3<3<3<3 This one was such a cute treat!!!!!! Personally, I'm not very fond of the classical shoujo expression... but this one just made scream "Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!" with my eyes closed and tighten fists =^w^=. The story, the characters and the romance are dosed in the perfect amount. It's a pity that it's such a short story, but I think it was for the best... This way you can keep a fresh memory of Leo and Yuiko (both characters so endearing :3) and re-read the whole thing as many times as you want!!!!!

Last Updated: Oct 24, 2012

9.75 (excellent) Absolutely adorable <3! At first I knew about this movie as a Ghibli's and Miyazaki-sensei's fan, then I knew that this was based on a series of children's fantasy novels (written since the 1950's by a British author). I saw some reviews and the opposition between them confused me, so I had to see it. Maybe it doesn't have the symbolical depth of other Miyazaki's films, but you have to watch it very carefully to see valuable details in the plot (of course, the art and the music are just exquisite): it's a story for children, for starters, which has the intention of presenting aspects of the world maybe unknown for them or even too close to them (being tiny, defenseless, to be afraid of the big people, to be apart from your family, to be alone, to be powerless, to see your world being torn...). This is no new matter, we've seen it in Jonathan Swift's "GULLIVER'S TRAVELS" (the Lilliputian people or, in the other way around, the Brobdignagian people), more recently it is also the main theme in Terry Pratchett's "TRUCKERS" (those witty gnomes steal your heart), and even Studios Ghibli with POM POKO. But that's not all; you may even see it as a metaphore from the cultural studies point of view or the ecologycal point of view, you name it! This is no shallow work, it's not incomplete and has lots of possible readings, all of them quite positive for the soul.

9.75 (excellent) Aaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww DDD':!!! Such a delightful and sad storyyyyy! It just an OVA that lasts only 45 minutes, and yet, its content is far more valuable and meaningful than series of a zillion chapters. I resented a little the strucks with the stick... but that putted aside, everything was just adorable: the ambiance, the first-person narrating, the development of the relationship... That's what I call love, dammit! T^T The end is so full of poetry and hope... I cried my eyes out with sadness and joy at the same time TT___TT

9.50 (excellent) A beatiful manga! Machika and Rain grow and learn together, they do not fall into dubious nor hurtful games; they need each other and that's that. I love the characters, their personalities, their relationships, the plot... Sweet tragedy by Ozaki-sensei that reveals her stand on life itself. It's remarkable how does she evolve through time, since the short stories compiled in Knife to Immortal Rain and Touhou shinigami... She parted from a very sad and painful place into a more forgiving one (and that's what you see in Metheor Methusselah). As a matter a fact, she herself writes about having a deep conversation with her editor, where she said this words: "I draw [and write] because I want to be forgiven". The editor said he had understood perfectly.

9.50 (excellent) What a delight! Besides the butchery, the action and all other stuff, what's most interesting about this manhwa is that is quite international. I mean, I read it in English, but I do know that the original used both languages (I don't know if this was also in the writing), Japanese and Korean, which their respective characters spoke to each other. So, I found this fact absolutely lovely: that characters and readers were forced to understand another language and doing so, make a new friend. It was funny when Juu and Han just understand each other through basic facial/ body expressions and, the best all, through fights xD (Too bad that it was so short :C)

9.50 (excellent) Again, if it's Miyazaki TM, I'll buy it gladly! I gotta say, it's pretty hard to make a valuable adaptation from a book (tons of people have failed in that task), but this just feels right. The aesthetics, the ambience, the plot, the endearing characters... what's not to love? Every element works just fine. Maybe it's not as poetical as Spirited Away, but it's still an adorable love story.

9.50 (excellent) An adorable version of the classical story! Well, it's not like it's very hard... I mean, it's Miyazaki-sensei after all. Whatever he does is just a delight for me, and I adore how all her heroines are able to be themselves and still find their true love on strong, reliable guys. His couples always make sense and you feel like they're meant to be in a natural, innocent and deep way.

Akira

9.50 (excellent) Otomo-sensei is one of those huge institutions that you have to respect, he really is. They usually say that Akira was an important break back in those days, but I think that it keeps current, valid and active... The idea of this post-apocalyptical world, the supreme stupidity of the dirigent class when they try to control this immense power, the misery, the brutality amidst the technology. It's just one of the most illustrative postmodern manifestos!

9.50 (excellent) Excellent manga! I wasn't sure what to expect when I first saw the title, but I started reding it and I just fell in love with it. This story kinda reminds me the pastoral novels (released during the Rennaisance), where the authors painted an ideal countryside full of noble, kind people who are able to cure the hero of his aches and doubts (in opposition to the city)... The innocent, brave and immaginative Naru-chan also reminds me of Ryushika (manga written by Abe Yoshitoshi, they're both brilliant and cute!). It's just very refreshing, very natural and terribly funny. Highly recommendable for anyone who likes to switch off! (I feel so identified with Seishu! I love calligraphy, I overwork, I don't like kids (although they seem to like me ¬¬) and I loooove cats even when I'm brutally allergic to them! >.<!)

9.25 (very good) I admit it: it's another interpretation of the classical story about the 3 guys and a baby, which we have seen lots of times. However, the setting, the ambiance, the rethorical images, the cold indeference of society and the warm caring of the rejected are very well played: you can feel it and it's very easy to be moved to tears and then, to a happy smile ^_^

9.00 (very good) Very cute story! What I've liked the most, besides the romance, is that the main couple actually talk to each other about stuff! It may look like it's nothing, but think about it: normally, the chick and/or the guy keeps secrets just "to protect" the other and then all gets messed up, blah, blah. But here it's different, so there are very few misunderstandings, they try to keep things clear and they take care of each other -^_^-

9.00 (very good) Such a lovely storyyyyy!!! <3<3<3<3<3 I admit that I was getting tired of yaoi and shounen-ai (basically, 'cause I'd like to see those cute romances and saucy scenes between a man and a woman too!), but this manga returned me my love for this genre. It's not that dramatic, it's very sexy and quite full of love (Misaki and Arikawa show it with no effort!). They accept their mutual love and they are willing to find new ways of showing it. Plot, dialogues, art: just adorable!!!!!

9.00 (very good) OMG!!! What a drama (the 80's were the real deal)!!! xDDD Of course this is a twisted, hurtful, complicated story, but at the same time, I can't deny how cool is it. The ambiance, the plot, the power relationships... bottomline: is a terrific way to tell a heavy story! The sex scenes are works of art, from the angles to the dinamics (that blondie long hair flying in the middle of the air as soon as he gets to the climax... O-M-G...) In the end, it's an obligated reference to anyone who claims to be a yaoi fan -^_^-

I don't rate it 10 'cause I know enough Greek mythology to disregard it. I never liked Saori and I think they didn't exploit Gold Saints as it should be (I could watch an entire series just about those 12 bastards -^.^-!) Galactic torunament, The twelve houses, Asgaard, Poseidon, Hades: cool, cool, cool! Inferno... nnnnot so much. Everything that came after that... meh! Lost canvas had nice things but it was practically the same story with tha same used characters and SSOmega... well, let's not even go that road...

9.00 (very good) A masterpiece by Watase-sensei! Here we can see the influence of tragic and tortuous relationships such as Ai no Kusabi or Fujimi Orchestra, but with a more elegant art and turn of events. Really, it astound me to read such a mature work right when I was getting used to the shoujo dynamics in Watase's work. The spicy scenes are priceless and carefully drawn so it looks very real. But the most valuable thing is the ending... It hurts like hell, but it's worth it and you get to understand that it couldn't have any other ending to support such a good story. TT__TT <3

Quite lovely story <3 (of course, it more cute and complex in the manga).

9.00 (very good) Very interesting movie! Based on George Akiyama's manga and produced by Toei Animation, this film was considered "anti-Miyazaki" in the following review: http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2012/07/27/asura-the-anti-miyazaki-anime-film/ I'm not quite sure about the reasons behind this adjective; I dare to think that it's related to the style aesthetics behind the main message: Miyazaki's style is about sublimed beauty, subtle hints and the presence of memory and magic in their various manifestations...here's quite the contrary: it's a world too real, painfully real, in which the path towards final revelation is not only hard, but brutal, even repugnant. It would seem that the general ambiance starts with the premise: "Create enough hunger, and everyone's a criminal". However, amidst the famine, the horror and the need of life, it also rises an impulse of deep humanity.
